Test Shoot

Yesterday I was in the countryside village of Kinoulton with fellow photographers Maria and Cathy.  The location was a derelict farm and outbuildings.  We were armed with our cameras a Lastolite Tri-Grip reflector and a Lastolite Ezybox for the Canon 580ex II speedlites.  Despite the cold and STRONG wind our model Rachel was a champion.  It was so cold and windy that we had to shoot for 5 mins and let her warm up in a winter jacket for 10 mins before moving on to the next location.  I’m happy with how the photos turned out considering how bad the weather was.  Test shoots are great for practicing new lighting techniques etc, it’s also a great creative exercise that definitely inspires everyone involved.  Anyway, I hope you like the images and until next time keep shooting. As usual, comments are appreciated.  If you haven’t already make sure and check out my new photographer interviews site www.interviewsbycrashtaylor.com

  • No wonder she was cold, she didn’t have any clothes on. Great job as usual Crash, I love the way you have used the normally distracting items to make interesting backgrounds with the shallow depth of field. Reminds me of Annabel Williams and how she uses them. I especially like the one from through the window and the one with the drill. Who are Maria and Cathy?

  • Crash can I PLEASE come out on a shoot with you? Your work is brilliant and you seem non stop with wanting to excel and take things to the next level. I’m located in Lincoln so not to far away. Do you do workshops? Tyler

  • fun shoot. Sorry to hear she was so cold! No fun, but totally worth the results!!!

  • Excellent pictures. Love the interview site.

  • Crash,

Which Ezybox do you recommend as I noticed they have two? Which one did you use for the shoot? The photos are great, hopefully one day I will be able to create images like that.

    Thanks,
    DB

  • Beautiful Images well done. Love the lighting on number 7 Crash. wow!
    Shazz

  • Love the exposures!! So could you dissect a shot more – I need to make myself shoot more in these kind of elements – but where to start

I would like to see a blog that a great photog (like yourself) dissects the shot completely

Camera settings, off camera flash, power ratio etc…

  • Some really amazing work here! Her eyes stand out so amazingly in 3 4 & 6!
    Also, i LOOOOVE #5 – wow!
